Cameron Marasco is a Hoover author and mom on a mission to make American history engaging and memorable for young learners. As a mother of my own school-aged children, I’ve heard that “history is boring,” and “why do we have to learn all these names and dates?!”
And, yet, my kids ask to read Cameron’s books as bedtime stories.
As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary, Cameron is using her talents to help children and families explore the people, events and ideals that shaped the nation in her newest book, Freedom Friends: America 250.
Freedom Friends: America 250 is the first officially licensed children’s book of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission (America250). With engaging storytelling, colorful illustrations, and age-appropriate historical content, the book takes readers on a journey through pivotal moments in American history—from the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to the Moon landing and other milestones that helped shape the American experience.
“America’s 250th anniversary is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help children connect with the story of our country,” said Marasco. “When children understand where we came from, they gain a greater appreciation for the freedoms, opportunities, and responsibilities that come with being American.”
This latest work is part of Cameron’s Freedom Friends series, including books about America’s promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and the preamble to the Constitution.
