Rose Cook
Rose Cook works on her latest jewelry designs against a backdrop of her original abstract paintings.
A new art gallery in Hoover is open for business in the Patton Creek Shopping Center. Owned by award-winning abstract artist and jewelry maker Rose Cook, Visual Feast showcases her paintings and handcrafted jewelry, alongside works by several other local artists.
Rose, age 78, may be new to the Hoover art scene. But her talents have been taking shape since she began making and selling original jewelry designs in her home state of New Jersey after her son was born. For her, it was a perfect way to merge her artistic side with the desire to be home and present with her son.
Twenty years later, at age 58, she picked up a paintbrush. For the first time, she started to get serious about painting and found it came easily to her. “Abstract is a natural fit for my floating brain,” said Rose. “The flexibility of creating abstracts is rewarding because there is no wrong. The emotions and images they bring to someone is their experience.”
Moving through her gallery, you can see how Rose’s jewelry-making style is woven into her paintings, too. Canvas, necklaces and earrings alike show off sharp lines, dramatic loops, and intentional shapes and colors that tell a story. Because it's abstract, the story meets you where you are. It can be whatever you, the viewer, need it to be.
Opening the art gallery in Hoover is something Rose has long dreamed of doing; she’s thrilled with the location, too. “Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. And I love the diversity," she added. Plus, the Patton Creek Shopping Center is an area of focus for Mayor Nick Derzis’s economic revitalization efforts.“Visual Feast Gallery is just part of the larger picture at Patton Creek Shopping Center,” shared Rose. “RCG Ventures, a multi-billion-dollar real estate corporation, has bought all the empty retail space in the area and plans to revive the shopping center to its original state of thriving small and large businesses. I am excited to be part of the revival.”
In addition to her own works, she hosts three additional Southern artists and plans to bring more on board soon. Currently, you’ll find watercolors by Han Min Zaw Wirth, landscapes by Barbara Casey, and bright, happy florals by Amy Anderson.
Visual Feast is open Tues. - Sat., from 10:30 am -5 pm and Sun. from 1-5 pm. Rose and her team will also be at the Patton Creek Art Festival on April 11-12, 2026.
Visual Feast is located at 4421 Creekside Ave, Suite 117, in the Patton Creek Shopping Center between Firebird’s Restaurant and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
